A major part of it is based on Telangana’s experience
The National Democratic Alliance government is ready with a blueprint to tackle the influence of the Islamic State (IS) in India, and newly created Telangana has a major role to play in it.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will circulate among all States a model framework for de-radicalisation and counter-radicalisation. The model is based on a presentation from the Telangana police.
Of the 19 Indians who had planned to travel to Syria to join the IS in the past one year, 16 were identified and stopped by the Telangana police. The State police also identified 60 active IS sympathisers whose details were shared with the intelligence agencies, and they remained under watch.
Surrender policy
Telangana suggested a ‘surrender and rehabilitation’ policy — similar to the one offered to Maoists — for young men and women prevented from joining extremist groups, a senior government official said. The Union government is yet to take a decision. It also requested the Centre to include lessons on “religious and interfaith tolerance in school curriculum.” In its presentation, Telangana asked the Home Ministry to empower the States to intercept encrypted communication.
