Several students complained that there were too many questions on current affairs in the Civil Services (preliminary) Examination paper this year.
The Union Public Service Commission has conducted the exam, for which 96 centres were set up in the city for 40,000 students who appeared for the test from the region including Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.Many of the aspirants said the paper had less questions on subjects like geography and Indian Constitution.
Harkaran Singh Vaid, a civil services aspirant, said: “This year, the exam pattern was unexpected and completely different from the last year. Most of the questions were based on current affairs. Moreover, unlike last year, there were not many questions on subjects like environment and geography this year. In fact economics was also based on the world current affairs.
“Another aspirant Harpreet Singh said: “Current affairs was the theme of this paper and so it was expected, but not to such an extent. Usually ancient history, geography, Indian Constituition have around 10-12 questions. This year, there were merely two to three questions in the paper.”
Overall, this year questions were on current affairs, system and governance,law, social and economic law and there changes.
The Civil Services Exam is conducted to select candidates to fill the administrative positions in different All India Services and Central Civil Services including IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, and IRTS. The main examination will be conducted on December 3.
