- For preparing conventional papers: Follow the basic strategy of Minimum sources and maximum revision; one book for each subject preferably; read it multiple times

- Don’t read fresh books and material till the last. Adequate time for revision should be part of your timetable and plan for multiple revisions
- Don’t be a passive reader but try to connect the dots. For example, while studying polity try to cover topics that have similar themes like President, Governor or Supreme court, high court and subordinate courts and draw linkages
- Prelims though is qualifying in nature should not be taken lightly as this stage eliminates the maximum number of students
- The significance of current affairs section has increased in recent times. Student should try to link static topics and current happenings
- Practice more and more questions.
- It’s important to analyze previous year papers and understand the current trends. Though it’s difficult to predict the nature of questions and the weightage accorded to various sections as it varies from year to year. But it will definitely help you develop a broad understanding of the current trends.
- Don’t be disheartened if you don’t know a question that is asked in a test or you are unfamiliar with a topic that your friends are discussing, as it is impossible for anyone to know everything and everyone has his own strengths and weaknesses and it applies to this exam as well
What to do in the last few days:
- Have faith in yourself. Don’t let negative feelings overpower your mind
- Important to take care of your health as this can spoil your entire preparation
- Play a sport that you like, this will help reduce stress
- Revise all your notes thoroughly
On the day of the examination:
- Don’t spend more time on a particular question. This might happen when a question is from a topic that you consider your strength
- Devote equal time to all questions
- Don’t enter the examination hall with a preconceived notion about the number of questions that you plan to attempt, the difficulty level of the paper etc.
- Don’t blindly attempt all questions as the paper has negative marking
- Don’t play safe by attempting a minimum number of questions as intelligent guessing plays an important role. Some amount of risk-taking is essential for the examination
- You can use elimination method to eliminate choices that you are not aware of and subsequently choose among the options that are left
