"Education is a silent revolution. “Every year lakh of people get killed by terrorists, or due to geopolitical tensions like situation in Syria. Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man - Swami Vivekananda - These words signify the importance of education.
Raised Educational Achievements leads to Rationality
Education transforms one's personality & prepares him to deal with the world in a rational manner. If we take the example of Indian freedom struggle, it was carried out peacefully in the leadership of intellectuals, mainly Gandhi who had analyzed & acknowledged the importance of peaceful means as against revolutionary channels propounded by another class which was though led by well-educated personalities such as Bose, yet influenced by emotions & could not utilize the fruits of education. Thus, we can conclude that education, if truly implemented, can certainly bring peace.
Role of Education in current upheaval
Education should broaden the perspective of the society by including diverse aspects so that they can consider various factors before reaching to any finding
Education should be aimed at developing one's viewpoint by presenting before certain examples of righteous (Indian path of peace) as well as dark path (Violent path of Germany) & their consequences
Morality is not something which can be taught, it is transferred from one generation to another, and education should present a platform for display of moral character by teachers, parents & other stakeholders of society
Education should not be restricted to schools/colleges, but has to be expanded to every sphere; from home to workplace to market and the society as a whole
Recent recruitment of educated engineering graduates by ISIS signals the degraded state of education which is focused on teaching modern science, neglecting the true wisdom which can be achieved by following above-mentioned steps.
Gandhi believed – “Formation of character should have a priority over alphabet”. This should be the ideal role of education. Education should sensitize people, help them build a strong value system and help them earn a decent living without compromising on their ethical standards. This would transform everyone into a responsible human, making this world a peaceful place to live in. As per Socrates, ‘Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel’ – so education would make us aware of ethical boundaries in a better way, however, the way we inculcate taught values in real life and act would determine the final outcome
